1. Exchange links with other sites. Do not just do this for the benefit of search engine traffic, but rather find links to trade with that can benefit both of you from a traffic standpoint.
2. Start a pay per click advertising campaign. So many people use Google Adwords or Yahoo Marketing because these are great ways to get traffic coming almost immediately.
3. Write and submit articles to the top article directories. Even if you only manually submit to the three or four directories per article it can add up over a period of time.

5. Join a handful of discussion forums and get involved in the conversation. Forum marketing is a very effective way to build relationships and drive traffic today and tomorrow.
6. Ask for referrals. Does your website or blog have a tell a friend script installed? If you have a worthwhile site people will be more than happy to refer it for you.
With the exception of pay per click advertising, all of these are something that could continue to give you traffic, long after you do to them. As a general rule, you should master one form of advertising before moving on to the next.
